Hello & Welcome!
Hello delegates, and welcome to the Internet Governance Forum for BMUN LXIX!
My name is Shayna Kothari, and I'll be your head chair for IGF this year. It has been a dream of mine for the past few years to finally be bringing the IGF to Model United Nations, so I'm super excited for where we'll go during this conference. Even though conference will be online, we hope that committee will be exciting and engaging for all of you!
In this committee, we'll be exploring the intersection of technology and policy -- things that impact the way that you and people around the world experience the internet every day. As the world becomes more digitized, this will become more and more important!
A little bit about me: I'm a senior at UC Berkeley with a major in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science and a minor in Human Rights. My pursuits on campus have included teaching our introductory computer science course, researching privacy rights, working on assistive technology, expanding access to data science education, and, of course, Model United Nations! I think that Model UN has the ability to bring together different disciplines in interesting ways and get people thinking about international policy critically, which is why I have continued to be involved in it in college.
In my free time, I like to read, write, cook, and learn languages. I've also been learning how to play guitar and ukulele during quarantine! In pre-COVID times, I also enjoyed going to museums and concerts.
Excited to get to know you all in committee and see what ideas you bring to the table!
