Sustainable Development and the IGF

In his remarks to the Internet Governance Forum in November of 2020, Secretary-General Guterres expressed that "the COVID-19 pandemic has shone a spotlight on the importance of digital technologies and transformation, and on the urgent need to enhance the role of the IGF as a platform for dialogue on proposed solutions.”

Since its start, the pandemic has contributed to both major economic losses and increasing inequality between those who have strong digital connectivity and those who do not. The IGF is uniquely equipped to address these challenges, and Topic 2 of our committee connects well to several UN Sustainable Development Goals relevant to the pandemic, including:

4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all

9: Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation (this one is extremely relevant to committee)

16: Promote just, peace, and inclusive societies

17: Revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development
